Devon presents tree surgeons with one of the most varied landscapes in England. From the Atlantic-exposed cliffs of the north coast to the sheltered estuaries of the south, from Dartmoor’s ancient wind-bent oaks to the manicured gardens of Torquay’s English Riviera — the county’s trees grow in very different conditions and need managing accordingly.
We cover the whole of Devon, from Exeter and Plymouth in the south to Barnstaple and Ilfracombe in the north, and everywhere in between. Our teams carry out crown reductions, tree felling, stump grinding, emergency storm call-outs and hedge management across the county. We check TPO status on every job, and for properties within Dartmoor or Exmoor National Parks, we manage the consent process for you.
Devon’s planning rules for tree work
Devon has a large number of Tree Preservation Orders, particularly in established residential areas and around listed buildings. Properties within Dartmoor National Park and Exmoor National Park have additional restrictions — you must notify the relevant park authority before carrying out most tree work, and certain works require formal consent. Within Conservation Areas, six weeks’ prior notification is required for felling or significant pruning of trees over 75mm diameter.
We check the relevant constraints before any work starts and handle the notifications and applications ourselves. You do not need to know the rules — that is our job.
